Guidelines For Ethical Reporting On Homelessness And Poverty

May 4, 2026

In the media coverage of homelessness and poverty, we often encounter a distorted picture – life on the street is presented as a result of personal tragedy, bad decisions or a combination of unfortunate circumstances. Homelessness and poverty are not individual problems, but complex social phenomena that arise at the intersection of economic, institutional and social factors.

Since its foundation in 2010, Liceulice magazine has brought the experiences of people who live on the margins of society closer to the audience in accordance with the principles of ethical reporting, and this year, with the support of European Union and Rerporting Diversity Network, they are sharing some of those principles with colleagues from other media.

The guidelines for ethical reporting on homelessness and poverty are intended for all newsrooms, media houses, journalists, editorial teams, and photojournalists who, in accordance with the Code of Journalists of Serbia, want to accurately, impartially and completely report on the problems of homelessness and poverty in accordance with the public interest and the ethical principles of their profession.

The Guidelines are currently available in Serbian only.
